Andy’s Priorities

I will fight for fairness for the people and against government favoritism. It's time to base legislative decisions on “what’s best for ALL Oklahomans”. Not who has the best lobbyists or the deepest pockets.

I will fight for quality public education for all Oklahomans. It shouldn't matter where people live or how much money their family has. Our democracy depends on well-informed, well-educated and civically engaged voters, who will make good choices when they vote. It starts with respect for teachers and what education does for us. Education is the true economic engine of the future.

I will fight for our disadvantaged and special needs citizens. They are left out and left behind. Our state has 7,000 special needs kids who must wait years for the services their families desperately need.

I will fight for true Criminal Justice Reform (CJR). Today, our state guarantees occupancy to keep private prisons filled with Oklahomans. That’s outrageous! It’s no wonder we lead the nation in putting our own people in prison.

I will fight for mental health and addiction services. In 2016, Oklahomans voted overwhelmingly in favor of SQ 780 and 781. The people said it’s time to give nonviolent offenders treatment instead of prison sentence. It’s time to do as the people voted.

I will fight to make government work. The people can and should have a healthy discussion about what we want government to do on our behalf. But once that’s done, it’s our job as elected leaders to make it work efficiently and effectively for everyone.

I Believe…

Government should work for everyone. It should not play favorites.

People who disagree with me are not the enemy. They are people I listen to so I can learn.

It is the responsibility of elected leaders make government be successful. When government fails, our elected leaders have failed.

Elected officials must reach out to their constituents before decisions are made and explain their decisions once they are made.

For government to be successful, we must keep it small and focused. When government grows too big, it runs amok and out of control.

It’s healthy and productive to talk about what we do and do not want government to do on our behalf.

Transparency is the key to accountability.  This applies to both services directly provided by our government and those who provide privatized services on behalf of the state.

Elected officials represent a district, but their primary duty is to ALL Oklahomans. When they vote, they must balance the needs of their constituents with this greater purpose in mind.

The foundation of a great democracy is a well-educated and civically engaged populace. Democracy fails without this.

Children are our state’s future. We must invest our time, talent, and resources in them.  If we want them to stay here and raise a family when they grow up, we MUST we work together to build a better state for them.

Others have failed for far too long.
It is time to govern.
